Abu Dhabi won five international awards at the Golden City Gate Awards 2019 as part of its successful participation in the Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin (ITB Berlin), one of the world’s largest tourism trade fairs which runs until 10 March 2019.
Abu Dhabi won the five awards for its global tourism promotional campaign, ‘Abu Dhabi – Your Extraordinary Story’ launched by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi. These included top prize, the Diamond Award in recognition of its promotional campaign, the first prize in the ‘Best Tourism Promotion Video’ category. Abu Dhabi also claimed the first prizes in the ‘Art & Culture’, ‘Country International’, as well as the first prize in the ‘City International’ category for its ‘What makes an extraordinary story #InAbuDhabi?’ video.
The Abu Dhabi pavilion at ITB Berlin served as an ideal platform for the tourism sector to highlight the emirate’s diverse tourism products and thriving tourism industry throughout the year, and its offering of competitive prices, world-class infrastructure, and leisure facilities for all tastes.
“We are delighted to have won these prestigious accolades, especially as Abu Dhabi achieved a record of more than 10 million visitors in 2018,” said HE Saif Saeed Ghobash, Undersecretary of DCT Abu Dhabi.
“Such international recognition helps strengthen Abu Dhabi’s presence on the global tourism map, promoting it as the preferred destination for vacationing, leisure, tourism, culture and business by highlighting its inspiring experiences and extraordinary stories. It also motivates us, at DCT Abu Dhabi, to continue our vigorous efforts to promote our destination around the world.”
Launched by DCT Abu Dhabi, the ‘Abu Dhabi – Your Extraordinary Story’ global destination campaign achieved its desired objectives. Over the past three years, the campaign succeeded in drawing a record number of visitors to Abu Dhabi, raising awareness of its tourism and cultural assets and activities, its authentic heritage, and its efforts to establish bridges of cooperation and communication with other world cultures.
Ghobash added: “We are committed to increasing global awareness of Abu Dhabi’s cultural essence and features, as well as to fostering cultural awareness and pride in the future generations of the emirate, drawing strength from tourists’ satisfaction with what our city has to offer, complementing its international achievements.”
The ‘Abu Dhabi – Your Extraordinary Story’ campaign video highlights the city’s diverse tourist, cultural and leisure attractions through a series of dazzling footage from around the emirate. In addition, the short film depicts the wide array of activities that tourists can enjoy when visiting Abu Dhabi.
The Award also features several other categories, including the ‘Best Public Relations Agency in the Field of Tourism’, ‘Best Board for Tourism Management’, ‘Best Travel Blog’, ‘Best Editorial Media Agency’, and ‘Best Tourism Journalist’.
