Abu Dhabi hosts range of eclectic activities and offers in celebration of 47th UAE National Day
Abu Dhabi is set to light up in celebration of the spirit of the Union, with a captivating line-up of activities, entertainment events and promotions across the emirate, including hotel and dining offers, celebratory events, special shopping experiences and dazzling fireworks displays.
Organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), and in partnership with key government and private partners, the celebratory activities will run from 28th November to 5th December, marking the unification of the seven emirates in 1971.
The official 47th UAE National Day celebrations will take place at Zayed Sports City Stadium on December 2nd, where the public will be entertained by a highly visual show that will honour the life and achievements of the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, whose centennial birth year coincides with the 47th anniversary of the UAE’s union.
In addition, DCT Abu Dhabi has organised spectacular fireworks displays at four locations across the emirate, including on Abu Dhabi’s Corniche at 9pm, where spectators will also be able to witness a spectacular show which will draw ‘UAE 47’ over the water and across Abu Dhabi’s skyline. Further spectacular firework displays will also be shown at the Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival in Al Wathba at 9pm, at Al Ain’s Hili Fun City at 8pm, and at Madinat Zayed in the Al Dhafra region at 9pm. In addition, Emirates Palace will showcase a fireworks display on the Corniche at 8:40pm.
On 2nd December, residents of and visitors to Abu Dhabi will be entertained by an air show from Fursan Al Emarat, the national aerobatic team, with participation from a Mirage2000 and an F-16, which will showcase an array of awe-inspiring aerial manoeuvres including the ‘corsair loop’, ‘swan right barrel roll’, ‘flag cross’, as well as the signature ‘UAE DNA’ at Abu Dhabi’s Corniche.
“On the country’s 47th National Day, we are proud to work together with our partners all across the emirate to deliver this impressive and diverse programme of events,” said Sultan Al Mutawa Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of the Tourism Sector at DCT Abu Dhabi. “It promises to be entertaining, inclusive and engaging and we are confident the celebrations will appropriately mark this auspicious occasion as we show our national pride and express both patriotism and loyalty to the leadership that has brought the UAE its esteemed modern status and current prosperity.
“We hope all UAE residents and visitors will join in the celebrations for this historic milestone as we present events and activities that will focus on the UAE’s rich heritage and help bring people of different nationalities together in a celebration of the UAE’s cultural diversity.”
In cooperation with the retail industry in Abu Dhabi, DCT Abu Dhabi has also organised special promotions as part of the ‘Glam Nation’ campaign taking place on December 2nd, offering the first 100 shoppers on the day a chance to win vouchers worth AED 100 for every AED 1,000 spent on health, beauty and personal care products, as well as oud perfumes and fragrances. Stores at four of Abu Dhabi’s malls, including Al Wahda Mall, Marina Mall, Bawadi Mall and Dalma Mall, will participate in the campaign.
In addition, complementing the National Day celebrations, the Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival will take place at Al Wathba from 30th of November 2018 to 26th of January 2019. The festival will bring the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to life through a collection of immersive and interactive performances with the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development also set to celebrate December 2nd at its premises.
National Day will also be celebrated by Yas Island’s Big Drive event, where friends and families can enjoy a celebration of urban fun and UAE culture on December 2nd from 2 pm to 10pm at Yas Marina Circuit’s iconic North Grandstand. An exciting mix of motorsport drift shows, music, modern and classical art, activities and food and beverage outlets promises a fun day out for the whole family, with a ‘heritage village’ also offering Arabic calligraphy, local graffiti art, inflatable amusement rides and karting activities. In addition to dazzling fireworks finale at 9pm. Yas Mall will also celebrate the United Arab Emirates’ 47th National Day with a dazzling array of traditional Emirati activities and entertainment, marking the 2018 Year of Zayed and showcasing the legacy of the UAE’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Paying homage to the UAE’s rich cultural heritage, on 1-3 December from 12:00pm – 12:00am, Yas Mall’s celebrations will include remarkable live Emirati stage performances including mesmerizing Ayala dancers as well as roaming UAE Musicals. To surprise shoppers and bring a smile to every visitor’s face, there will be roaming entertainment over the weekend throughout Yas Mall.
Abu Dhabi Municipality will also mark National Day with several events near Municipality Park. Ayyala, Saudi and Indian folklore bands will perform on stage from 28th November until 5thDecember, with 40 heritage kiosks and 10 food trucks also on site.
Al Ain City Municipality will mark National Day with events at Hili Fun City on December 1 & 2. A series of artistic and innovative performances, in line with the ‘Year of Zayed’, will be on offer, with the addition of even more international and local shows including the world premiere of the ‘Open Sesame’ show, which will be presented at the children’s theatre.
Further celebratory events have been organised by other Abu Dhabi organisations, with Louvre Abu Dhabi presenting a variety of heritage shows for museum visitors, Al Ain Club organising a parade, a small market and musical performances, the Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club in association with Emirates Swimming Federation organising a special celebratory swimming championship and Emirates Heritage Club organising a special National Day rowing race off the shores of the Heritage Village on the Corniche breakwater.
Mubadala will also celebrate National Day by transforming Al Maryah Island’s waterfront promenade into an oasis of celebration, with live performances, fun activities for all the family, traditional food options and its own fireworks extravaganza from 4pm till 10pm on Saturday, 1st December and Sunday, 2nd December 2018.
A special promotion will also be available from Careem, which will mark UAE’s 47th National Day by teaming up with DCT Abu Dhabi to offer customers a 47% discount off two Careem rides to and from any National Day venue by using the code “AD47”, with a maximum discount of AED 30 per ride, per customer.
