Abu Dhabi Libraries Host Community Initiatives Celebrating Year of Tolerance
In celebration of the Year of Tolerance, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) is organising several initiatives and events this week in several libraries across in Abu Dhabi. The events, which run until 13 June, include special initiatives for people of determination, orphans, school children and other community members.
The activities began yesterday at Al Marfa Library, and the remaining will take place at Khalifa Park Library, Al Bahia Library and Al Wathba Library on Wednesday, 12 June, before concluding at Zayed Central Library in Al Ain on Thursday, 13 June. During this period the libraries will be open from 9am to 7pm.
Al Bahia Library Activities – Wednesday, 12 June
Al Bahia Library, in cooperation with Al Shahama Municipal Affairs Department, will host a series of morning activities on Wednesday, 12 June. The programme will include a video on libraries and an activity on the importance of reading. A number of workers will be honoured during a special event.
In the evening, Emirates Red Crescent and Zakat Fund will take part in activities that include a Story on Tolerance and a series of competitions.
Al Wathba Library Activities – Wednesday, 12 June
Al Wathba Library, in partnership with the Zayed Higher Organization, will host a series of activities on Wednesday, 12 June. The programme includes a theatre show on autism, hosted by Ms. Nairouz and Ms. Amal Matea, followed by a series of external visits to Al Noor Center for the Care of Disabled, Jussour Autism Center and Future Center.
Khalifa Park Library Activities – Wednesday, 12 June
On Wednesday, June 12, Khalifa Park Library will host morning activities from 10am to 12pm, aimed at students from public and international schools. The activities will include the sessions ‘Microspace’; ‘Instances of Tolerance’; ‘A Story and A Lesson’; and ‘Words of Tolerance’, which will quote the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
There will also be a workshop, ‘Design the Best Logo for the Year of Tolerance’, inviting students to create a logo for tolerance; a question and answer session; a series of workshops on tolerance; and a small art show featuring paintings depicting the meaning of tolerance.
The programme will conclude with a special event titled ‘The Basket of Tolerance’, hosted in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Municipality. The event will see foreign workers presented with gifts and diabetes tests provided by the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre.
Zayed Central Library – Thursday, 13 June
On Thursday, 13 June the Zayed Central Library in Al Ain will continue to celebrate the Year of Tolerance through a range of fun activities and workshops for children and their families. Examples of tolerance in UAE culture will be highlighted through a series of interactive stories, followed by workshops promoting the values ??of tolerance to children. A collection of simple gifts will also be prepared and distributed to children in charities.
Finally, a collection of valuable books highlighting tolerance across the UAE’s history will also be showcased, in conjunction with World Blood Donor Day, which falls on 14 June. A blood donation campaign will also take place in the evening in cooperation with the Blood Bank.
