With more than 60,000 race fans expected to converge on the capital city for the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix between 23rdand 25th  November, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has provided an overview of what’s taking place  during the weekend’s festivities, so visitors and residents alike are aware of the boundless opportunities available to them during the Grand Prix weekend.

DCT Abu Dhabi is forecasting highly impressive occupancy rates in the emirate’s leading hotels over the three days. A number of four and five-star hotels are expecting to be fully booked over all three days of racing, while others are likely to be near full capacity too. In addition, six shopping malls have partnered with DCT Abu Dhabi to run a series of “Super Deals” to celebrate the Grand Prix Weekend. These include Yas Mall, Marina Mall, Dalma Mall, Al Wahda Mall, Bawadi Mall and Al Ain Mall.

HE Saif Saeed Ghobash, Undersecretary, DCT-Abu Dhabi, said: “A decade on since Abu Dhabi hosted its first Grand Prix, this annual event has become one of the most important highlights in our year-round calendar attracting tens of thousands of fans to our emirate and millions more to watch all around the world. It is an ideal opportunity for us to showcase our ability to host world-class global events while also underlining our exceptional and diverse range of attractions, infrastructure and accommodation.

“We are also able to give our visitors a taste of our traditions, culture and heritage which make Abu Dhabi such a distinctive and desirable destination to visit.”

DCT Abu Dhabi will also be supporting the unmissable community-wide line-up for the Yasalam festival with the introduction of “Live Across the City”, which kicked-off on Friday, 16th November. The Yasalam Live Across the City activation will see a flurry of fast paced, free activity that will celebrate the key pillars of music and motorsports as the F1® weekend gears up, ready to reach fever point before the Grand Prix Weekend. Across the 10-day period, music, motor and entertainment fans can go and see the “Pit Stop” at A’l Bahar Corniche, for an exciting schedule of free events for families and motorsports fans of all ages. Then during the Grand Prix weekend itself the “Super Taxis” initiative will be taking place which will give concert-goers the chance to arrive at Yas in a supercar such as a Lamborghini, Maserati, Corvette, Bentley, Rolls Royce or Mercedes! Finally, “Yasalam After Hours” will return with celebrations lasting well into the night, with a series of concerts following the day’s action on the track.

With such an array of entertainment on offer, it is no surprise that year-on-year the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Season continues to attract visitors from every corner of the world. This is not only true of entertainment but it is also worth highlighting the vast array of food choices that make the capital city an international food destination. As such, and in partnership with Zomato, 20 of the very best restaurants in Abu Dhabi will be offering 4-course menu’s as part of the Abu Dhabi Best Menu’s Initiative at a special period price of AED 179 per person.

All of these offerings promise to bring Abu Dhabi to life with a thrilling calendar of activities, all supported by DCT to mark the landmark 10th anniversary of Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The most recent figures released in August show that the number of hotel guests staying in Abu Dhabi rose by 10.5 per cent compared to the same period last year, particularly for visitors from Saudi Arabia, India and China. Further gains in visitor numbers are expected following the recent opening of attractions including Warner Bros. Abu Dhabi theme park, as well as hosting marquee events such as Abu Dhabi Food Festival and Abu Dhabi Art, ensuring DCT-Abu Dhabi is in an excellent position to capitalise on cementing the capital’s position as a cosmopolitan cultural powerhouse.
