Applications open for the 2019 Christo and Jeanne-Claude Award
Under the Patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan Al Nahyan and in partnership with Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF), NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) announced the opening of applications for the 2019 Christo and Jeanne-Claude Award. The deadline for submitting entries is January 20, 2019.
The highly prestigious art award, in its seventh edition, continues to inspire and cultivate emerging artists and creative practitioners in the UAE. It aims to provide them with a platform to launch their career in arts through the support of industry professionals. Applicants must be UAE residents who are either pursuing their college degree or have already graduated within the last five years. The winner will be granted $10,000 to produce their new artwork, along with $5,000 by Christo to fund their upcoming artistic projects, further studies, or work experience.
The Christo and Jeanne-Claude award is granted annually to selected applicants to encourage them to be innovative in creating and exhibiting their artwork, giving the winning artist a chance to experience the professional life as an artist from the conception of their artwork to its exhibition. Entrants may propose work in any medium such as photography, sculpture, installation, land art, video, or any other field relevant to the art industry.
The work of the award-winning artist will be unveiled in October 2019, where it will be exhibited at NYU Abu Dhabi’s campus on Saadiyat Island.
Established in 2012, this Award is designed to encourage the creation of new artwork in the UAE, and act as a launch pad for visual artists across the Emirates. The Christo and Jeanne-Claude Award is the only program in the region to support and nurture participants with mentorship and advice from industry professionals.
To apply, entrants must complete an online application form, including a proposed budget, available at http://www.nyuad-artgallery.org/en_US/christo-award
