Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi Concludes the Qasr Al Muwaiji Cultural Roadshow
he Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) concludes the Qasr Al Muwaiji roadshow, the cultural programme that visited various universities, schools, and other institutions across Abu Dhabi since October 2018.
Celebrating the heritage of Qasr Al Muwaiji and its prominent presence in the UAE’s past, the roadshow was made possible by the hard work and extensive preparations of a large team of professionals, including archeologists, restoration experts, historians, and exhibition organisers who engaged directly with members of the community to impart first-hand knowledge of the emirate’s rich cultural heritage and deep-rooted history. As the birthplace of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, Qasr Al Muwaiji is considered one of the most important landmarks in Al Ain Region, where Al Muwaiji Oasis is also an integral component of UNESCO’s List of World Heritage Sites in Al Ain.
The first stop on the roadshow was the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR), where the museum team introduced the venue’s offerings, services, and exhibition and conveyed its historical significance to ECSSR staff members. The roadshow also took in the Department of Urban Planning & Municipalities, The National Media Council, Al Ain Zoo, Oasis Hospital and the Abu Dhabi Police Officers Club, where a series of short films and presentations on the history of Qasr Al Muwaiji were offered. Audiences were introduced to the ancient palace and educated on its importance to the country’s historical and cultural legacy.
The cultural roadshow has had many successes, from establishing new connections to welcoming record numbers of tourists and participants to its events. Directly engaging the local community to help them to discover all the rich cultural heritage the UAE has to offer, the programme has enabled audiences of all ages learn about Emirati history, traditions and crafts in greater depth. In addition, undertaking a roadshow throughout Abu Dhabi has allowed employees involved with the programme to directly connect with like-minded organisations and meet with other thought leaders to exchange knowledge and experience, working together to support the preservation of the UAE’s heritage and cultural values for the next generation.
