First-ever Winners of the Extraordinary City Story Campaign Enjoy Grand Prize Tour of Abu Dhabi

The winners of the first-ever Extraordinary City Story competition, which was organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) in partnership with Manchester City, claimed their once-in-a-lifetime prize this week, as they were treated to a luxury tour of the UAE capital.

Father and son, Phillip and Elliot Seymour, from York in the UK, won the competition, which launched at the start of the 2017/18 season as part of Manchester City’s tour of the US, by having their ‘extraordinary story’ of being Manchester City fans chosen out of the thousands of entries received.

And with the top prize an ‘extraordinary’ trip to the emirate, the father and son duo claimed their prize and touched down in Abu Dhabi on October 27th for a five-day luxury break to explore the best the capital has to offer.

The Extraordinary City Story campaign forms part of a larger promotional campaign launched by DCT Abu Dhabi, which showcases the UAE capital as a location with a wealth of stories to share, where anyone who experiences the emirate gets to take away with them lifelong memories of unique experiences.

And DCT Abu Dhabi made sure the prize lived up to its promise, by packing dad Phil and Elliot’s itinerary with extraordinary sight, sounds… and some City-themed surprises!

On arrival at their room at the 5-Star Yas Hotel, Elliot was greeted by an exclusive personalised video message from his favourite Manchester City player, Gabriel Jesus himself. The superstar Brazilian welcomed Elliot and his dad to Abu Dhabi and wished them a great time exploring the emirate! And as an extra special treat, Elliot was then presented with City shirt signed by the South American striker, with dad Phillip also receiving a City shirt, this one signed by the whole team!

And there was more to follow; completing a hat-trick of extraordinary experiences, the official Premier League Trophy, which Pep Guardiola’s side won during their record-breaking 2017/18 season, was brought to their room for father and son to get some once-in-a-lifetime pictures with the champions’ silverware.

Following the football-focussed surprises, the Seymours then had time to enjoy the 5-star Yas Hotel, which is the only hotel in the world to straddle an F1 track.

As part of their prize, father and son were then treated to three days of extraordinary Abu Dhabi experiences, including a trip to Yas Island’s famous theme parks – Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld – and a desert safari trip, where the duo enjoyed some authentic desert activities such as a camel riding, sand boarding and dune bashing.

“I’d love to tell you my favourite part of this trip, but if I’m totally honest, every day has been action-packed and we haven’t stopped at all!” said dad Phillip. “From the beautiful Yas Hotel to Ferarri World, to Yas Beach to Yas Waterworld, to be able to run around the Yas Marina Circuit with my son, all of these experiences were really memorable, this place is truly extraordinary!

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to Visit Abu Dhabi and Manchester City for making our time in Abu Dhabi so incredible, I can’t wait to share this experience with my family and friends and all of the Manchester City fans around the globe!”

And 11-year-old Elliot was equally impressed, saying: “When I first entered our hotel room I was worried because the television was on and I thought that perhaps someone had been in our room and has messed with our stuff; but then I realised that Gabriel Jesus was on the screen welcoming us to Abu Dhabi! My dad and I were absolutely shocked as he is one of my favourite players at City.

“My Trip to Abu Dhabi has been absolutely incredible, I would go so far as to say; it has been the best holiday of my life thanks to Visit Abu Dhabi. My favourite activity I would say was sandboarding on the dunes because it’s really fun and unique!”

DCT Abu Dhabi’s Extraordinary City Story campaign is continuing for the current 2018/19 season, with fans once again in with a chance to win an extraordinary trip to the UAE capital just by sharing their own stories about being a Manchester City fan on their social platforms using the hashtag #ExtraordinaryCityStory.

DCT Abu Dhabi’s ongoing partnership with Manchester City is once again enhancing the campaign, further boosting the destination’s profile by tapping into the global appeal of football and the intrinsic passion that fans have for sharing stories and experiences.
