All You Need to Know About Obesity, its Complications and Treatment at LAU Medical Center- Rizk Hospital
The Division of Endocrinology/ Department of Internal Medicine at the Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine in collaboration with the LAU Medical Center – Rizk Hospital, organized a conference entitled “Advances in the Management of Obesity Disease” on Saturday October 27, 2018, to provide attendees with a holistic update on obesity management.
Speakers from different specialties including nutritionist, psychologist, bariatric surgeons along with the endocrinologists covered a wide variety of topics including pathophysiology, complications of obesity and implications on the cardiovascular system and treatment of obesity.
“As it is known, the obesity complex is not just a cosmetic concern, however it increases the risk of diseases and health problems, such as heart diseases, diabetes and high blood pressure,” said Dr. Kamal Hirbli, Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Head of the Division of Endocrinology at the LAU Medical Center- Rizk Hospital. He added: “Obesity is a serious concern because it is associated with poorer mental health outcomes, reduced quality of life, and the leading causes of death in the U.S. and worldwide, including diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and some types of cancer.”
The conference was followed by a panel discussion and a Q&A session where attendees got the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and earn CME (Continuing Medical Education) credits.
