NYU Abu Dhabi Celebrates UAE Flag Day
Today, NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) students, faculty, and staff came together to celebrate UAE Flag Day.
NYUAD Vice Chancellor Al Bloom’s remarks celebrated a nation built on a continuity of enlightened leadership and on a vision that offers an exceptional quality of life to its own citizens, extends a welcoming embrace to the citizens of a broad diversity of nations and presents an ideal of cooperative understanding to the world.
Bloom said: “We raise the UAE flag on this, the 100th anniversary year of Sheikh Zayed’s birth, who founded the UAE and placed education as an enduring and central value of its continuity. And we do so, also, in deep respect for his Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, who continue to play crucial roles in sustaining the vision today. We raise the flag, as well, in deepest gratitude to a nation that offers us a truly farsighted and fulfilling home. And we raise the flag in deepest appreciation to our own Emirati students, staff, and faculty, many of whom are here today and who contribute so centrally to the warmth, energy, and to the intellectual acumen of this community, and to its care for humanity and historical success.”
NYUAD Emirati student, Al Reem Al Hosani, recited a poem in Arabic and English about the pride and symbolic strength of the UAE Flag. This was followed by the flag raising and the UAE anthem.
UAE Flag Day commemorates the accession of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan as President of the UAE in 2004.
