Team Amsterdam has won the FIBA 3×3 World Tour Abu Dhabi Masters Final this evening, against the backdrop of the iconic Abu Dhabi Corniche.
Organised by Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) in cooperation with the FIBA, 14 teams from 12 different countries, the tournament saw Amsterdam win the title after beating last year’s winners Miami, 21-14 in the final. Following an exciting match that demonstrated the great rivalry between the teams, it was the Dutch squad that received the $40,000 award from His Excellency Talal Al Hashimi, Executive Director of the Events Sector of ADSC, and H.E Dr. Ahmed Al Qubaisi, Executive Director at ADSC, in the presence of Ignacio Soriano, Head of Events and Partnerships, FIBA.
Speaking after the awards ceremony, H.E. Al Hashimi said:
“Once again, we thank everyone who contributed to the World Tour event here in Abu Dhabi, including supporting organizations, partners, and sponsors, for their significant role in the success of the championship. One of the largest international events on the FIBA calendar, it is always a pleasure to host such sporting greatness on the capital of the UAE.”
Worthy De Jong was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, receiving his award from H.E Ahmed Al Qubaisi.
Seasoned player Dejan Majstorovic won the free throw contest, and was presented his prize by Zainab Abdulrahman Mohamed, Head of Waterbodies Section, Abu Dhabi Municipality.
Local favourite David Carlos won the Dunk Challenge, before being presented with his prize from Adel Saeed Al Yaqoubi, International Events Director at ADSC.
Team Amsterdam leave Abu Dhabi with $40,000 in prize money and of course the bragging rights going into the next FIBA 3×3 World Tour competition in Manama, Bahrain.
