Emirates is making sure that the English do not miss out on their football. Even at 35,000 feet.

Dubai’s flag carrier announced today that it will live stream the UEFA Europa League Final on May 29 and the UEFA Champions League Final on June 1 live on its dedicated in-flight sports channel, Sport 24.

This has been prompted by a ‘rare’ occurrence in which both finals are contests between English teams.

Chelsea plays Arsenal in the Europa League Final while Liverpool plays Tottenham in the Champions League Final.

All the 23 Emirates flights operating to and from England during match times are equipped with Live TV, Emirates said.

This includes flights to and from London Heathrow, London Gatwick, London Stansted, Manchester, Newcastle and Birmingham.

Emirates currently has 175 aircraft equipped with Live TV including all Boeing 777 and select Airbus 380s.

Emirates estimated that approximately 70,000 of its passengers could be watching the finals mid-flight.

But of course, not all passengers are equal, and therefore while Economy Class customers will watch their matches on 13.3-inch screens, Business and First Class passengers will get to watch them on 23-inch and 32-inch displays respectively.

Emirates will also be screening the matches live on the 55-inch screen at the onboard lounge on select A380s.

Emirates also said that ist passengers will be able to access more live events going forward on Sport 24 – such as the NBA Finals, the French Open, and the FIFA Women’s World Cup Final.
