For the 5th year, L’Oréal Professionnel’s Initiative “I Took the Cut” draws massive crowds from across Lebanon to support Cancer Patients!
Twenty Talented L’Oreal Prossionnel’s hairdressers joined “scissors” on Sunday October 6, at ABC Verdun, to offer complimentary haircuts and styling to more than 500 donors from all ages – women, children and even men – who had come from across Lebanon to make the cut and donate their hair for women fighting cancer.
For the fifth consecutive year, the event succeeded at collecting 42 kilos of hair from the public, in order to produce and provide free-of-charge wigs for patients who suffer from hair fall due to chemotherapy.
Nearly 60% of cancer patients lose their hair due to the chemotherapy treatment and often avoid being seen in public. To enable them to feel more comfortable with their appearance, and help them overcome this difficult phase, L’Oréal Professionnel teamed up with the Lebanese Breast Cancer Foundation LBCF to organize “I Took the Cut”.
“At L’Oreal, we have the conviction that beauty can help those who are struggling through difficult experiences to feel better and live better. This is why L’Oréal Professionnel has chosen to support those to whom life has dealt a rough hand, by helping them rediscover their fighting spirit through its network of hairdressers,” said Emilie Wahab Harb, General Manager of L’Oréal Professional Division.
On this specific day, LBCF, headed by Dr. Nagi El Saghir, was also keen to bring specialists on ground to raise awareness, as well as share insights and prevention methods relating to breast cancer.
LBCF Chairman Dr Naji al Saghir commented: “We are proud that the initiative had this unimaginable success. Thanks to the constant support of L’Oréal Professionnel, we are one step closer to raising awareness among community members regarding the threats of breast cancer, the importance of early detection, and the means to prevent it.”
The event exceeded all expectations! More than 500 donors took the cut and donated at least 20 centimetres of their hair resulting in more than 800 ponytails, including previously cut donations that were also dropped off at the venue. This number should translate into at least 250 wigs!
“We would have never done it without the overwhelming support and love of donors who are growing year by year, helping us achieve one of our goals of providing complementary wigs to women who need all the emotional support they can get,” Mirna Hoballah, Vice President of the LBCF, said.
A feel-good event and well-met goals! This Sunday proved that giving just few centimetres of hair, could give joy to both donor and patient.
