Lebanese researchers shared the findings of their studies during the 2nd edition of GTALKS, an initiative of The Goguikian Foundation
The Goguikian Foundation, is a not-for-profit, apolitical, philanthropic NGO which promotes Youth Empowerment through various programs. GTALKS, a global platform, is an initiative of the Goguikian Foundation which promotes young Lebanese researchers and sheds light on their innovation and ingenuity.
During this episode of GTALKS, five PhD holders shared their research findings. Each one of them gave a 7-minute presentation in English, in addition to a 5-minute Q&A.
Dr. Sirine Taleb, who holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer engineering/Machine learning and a BS in Computer and Communications Engineering from the American University of Beirut (AUB), presented her study on how to prolong the life of smartphones battery. Her thesis focuses on saving battery life in smart mobile devices.
Dr. Amin Al – Awar, Ph.D. holder in Biological Science – Szeged University, Hungary and MS holder in Biochemistry from Beirut Arab University, studied the effects of anti-diabetic drugs on Myocardial Infarction and found new protective insights. He revealed that Sitagliptin can reduce tissue damage in Myocardial Infarction.
Dr. Mira Moussa, Ph.D. holder in Molecular Biology/Biomaterials from the University Of Geneva, Switzerland and MS holder in Immunology from Paris – Sud XI and in Biochemistry from the Lebanese University, presented her research on implants of any kind, from tooth implants to prosthesis used anywhere in the body. Her study showed that the new tools improve implants and shorten recovery time.
Dr. Sara Obeid, a Ph.D. holder in Renewable Energy and Biotechnology from Ecole Doctorale des Science de la Matière, Toulouse, France and Ecole Doctorale en Sciences et Technologie, Lebanese University, explained how Microalgae can replace petroleum diesel and fossil fuel, and can absorb carbon dioxide in huge quantities compared to trees and they are responsible for emitting more than half of the atmospheric oxygen. She discovered a process to reduce the cost and eliminate the pollution of biofuel production from Microalgae
As for Dr. Joanna Raad, a PhD. Holder in Arts, (theatre studies) and B.A. holder in Audiovisual Studies from Université Saint Joseph (USJ), Beirut, she presented her research mainly based on the relationship between theater and painting, in particular between modern theater and modern painting in the 19th century.
