No child left behind. A commitment to inclusion
Promoting the cause of better inclusion in mainstream educational institutions, Maharat Learning Center is proud to announce its latest collaboration with the International School of Creative Science (ISCS), Nad Al Sheba. The centre has launched an Inclusion Unit in the school, offering a range of services for those who need it most.
The collaboration between the two institutions will see the establishment of a full support centre for students with educational needs, including training services, individualised programmes, and supervision. The Inclusion Unit will support students of determination to access and succeed in mainstream education.
Maharat Learning Center, based in Dubai Festival City, was established in 2017 by Dr Hibah Shata. Dr Shata already runs two medical centres in Dubai that provide diagnostic and early intervention services to children with additional needs such as autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, and developmental delays. In order to bridge the gap between early intervention, special education and mainstream education, and support the vision of the UAE government for Dubai to be a fully inclusive city, Maharat was established to provide inclusion and school support services directly to students of determination.
The centre offers programmes to prepare children for the transition to mainstream education, support the children when they are in the school, and also provide training and professional development to teachers, special educators, and school support staff.
The establishment of the Inclusion Unit at ISCS is indicative of the school’s commitment to driving inclusion, removing barriers in education for children of determination, and contributing towards an inclusive society. This sentiment is echoed by Maharat Learning Center, who support a variety of learning needs, and physical, cognitive, communication, and emotional challenges.
