Popular Visits from Bait Al Oud Online Series Celebrate Classical Arabic Singing
The ongoing Visits from Bait Al Oud online concert series will continue with its fifth edition on June 3rd, once again under the artistic direction of Iraqi Oud legend Naseer Shamma and Dr. Fathulla Ahmed, the head of the Vocal Department at Bait Al Oud.
The latest installment of the popular series, which has been organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), will celebrate the rich tradition of Classical Arabic Singing and feature Bait Al Oud’s most talented graduates. As the centre of the Arab World’s cultural identity and musical heritage, the rich tradition of Classical Arabic Singing will be revisited by Shamma, the graduated students and distinguished teachers from Bait Al Oud academy, as they offer a fascinating instrumental and vocal experience paying tribute to the greatest Arabic voices in history.
The concert will begin streaming at 9pm, and will feature international vocal graduates all trained by Dr. Fathulla Ahmed such as Nejma Alkoor with The Heart Loves All Beautiful, with lyrics by Bayram Al Tounsi and composition by Riyad Alsunbati, Nancy Khalaf Zakak with Under Your Protection, with lyrics and composition by Mansour Labaki, and Ronahi Mamo with Poem (Contentment and the Light), with lyrics by Hussein El Sayed and composition by Riyad Alsunbati, plus many more stellar performers.
The concert will also feature instrumental pieces played with Oud and Qanun by the Bait Al Oud teachers Bassam Abdel Sattar and Mohammed Dohai as well as a Turath Emirati performed by all instrumentalists together.
A continuation of ‘Naseer Shamma & Friends’, the successful online concert which spread a message of hope during the current COVID-19 pandemic, ‘Visits from Bait Al Oud’ has been regularly held on Wednesdays, where Bait Al Oud musicians from all over the world have been performing from the safety of their homes under the artistic supervision of Shamma.
A world-renowned maestro from Iraq, Shamma is a distinguished oud player who has received more than 60 awards and accolades, and released albums in Italy, Egypt, Algeria and the UK with more than 60 compositions. As the UNESCO Artist for Peace and goodwill ambassador to the International Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies, Shamma continues to use his talent to spread a message of hope alongside the talented graduates of Bait Al Oud and instructors.
The series has held number of concerts to date including ‘The New Qanoon’, ‘Naseer Shamma and the Bait Al Oud Graduates: Oud Celebration’ and ‘Singing the Holy Month of Ramadan’.
