Sheikh Zayed Book Award to Participate in Frankfurt Book Fair 2019
The Sheikh Zayed Book Award (SZBA) will participate in this year’s edition of the Frankfurt Book Fair (Frankfurter Buchmesse), which takes place from 16 – 20 October, as part of its mandate to promote Arab culture worldwide, enrich literary communication with the international community and also showcase the efforts of the United Arab Emirates to support the book industry.
The Sheikh Zayed Book Award will be hosting a series of events throughout the Frankfurt Book Fair, including panel discussions, networking receptions and book launches, which will be attended by internationally renowned publishers and authors as well as promising young talents from across the world and the Emirates.
Amongst the highly anticipated events will be a panel discussion titled ‘Trends in Children’s Literature – Arab and German Voices’ which will host the winner of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award for Children’s Literature in 2019, Hussain Al Mutawaa, esteemed German children’s author and CEO of the International Library for Children’s Literature in Munich, Dr. Christiane Raabe, Stephan TurdeWind, Publisher of Edition Orient and Stefan Weidner, Arabist, author and critic who will be moderating the panel. The event promises enlightening conversation around translation, accessibility and the current trends in children’s writing.
The Sheikh Zayed Book Award will be also organising a meeting which will gather notable international publishers from China, Germany, France and Russian to discuss ways of collaboration and introduce the Award’s Translation Funding, launched in 2018 to encourage the translation, publishing and distribution of SZBA winning-titles internationally.
The Award will also be hosting a book launch event on 18th October to celebrate the translation of two of its titles in literature and children’s literature categories in Ukrainian, English, French and Italian in the presence of the winning authors and representatives’ from the publishing houses that published the books.
