The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi celebrates Australian successes
Abu Dhabi wins Tourism Board of the Year accolade at Women in Travel Awards, while stakeholder roadshow receives positive feedback from travel agents
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) is celebrating after winning the Tourism Board of the Year accolade at Australia’s Women in Travel Awards and also for concluding a successful roadshow around the country.
Abu Dhabi was also featured on the popular Australian TV show Better Homes and Gardens where four hosts travelled to the Emirate last month to film two episodes.
DCT Abu Dhabi picked up the Tourism Board of the Year accolade at the prestigious Women in Travel awards ceremony, which was held at Doltone House in Sydney on 20 June. The awards event, which this year attracted representatives from across Australia, is held annually and is organised by Travel Weekly.
Meanwhile, DCT Abu Dhabi’s ‘Luxury Roadshow’, in partnership with Etihad Airways, toured Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in June, and attracted 300 travel agents who attended to learn more about what makes Abu Dhabi such an ideal destination.
The roadshow attendees met with tourism stakeholders from Abu Dhabi, including representatives from Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts, Bab al Qasr Hotel, Etihad Airways, Etihad Holidays, Hala Experiences, Dubai Expo 2020 and Orient Tours. The travel agents were given insider tips about all the latest developments in Abu Dhabi, including the emirate’s involvement with Dubai Expo 2020.
Many of the travel agents recommended the ideal amount of time for their clients to visit Abu Dhabi was at least four days. This has been reflected in DCT Abu Dhabi’s statistics that show average length of stay has increased by 13.63% from 2.76 nights in 2018 to 3.13 nights in 2019.
“Winning the Tourism Board of the Year award at the Women in Travel Awards was a great achievement for DCT Abu Dhabi, which was enhanced further by the success of our roadshow in Australia,” said Ali Hassan Al Shaiba, Acting Executive Director of Tourism and Marketing at DCT Abu Dhabi.
“The large number of travel agents who attended our roadshows in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney were impressed by the numerous choices of attractions and accommodation options on offer in Abu Dhabi, as well as the exceptional flight service Etihad Airways provides from Australia. We look forward to further cooperate with our travel partners in Australia in attracting even more visitors to our unique destination.”
Sarah Built, Etihad Airways General Manager Australia and New Zealand, said: “This roadshow provided a unique opportunity for Etihad to both celebrate and bring to life our legendary Arabian hospitality alongside our Choose Well initiative, which allows guests to completely tailor their own personalised experience, from Economy class through to First Class and The Residence. Whether they opt for a neighbour-free seat for their long-haul journey in Economy or just want to enjoy extra food and beverage treats during the flight, Etihad offers unparalleled levels of choice.”
Etihad Airways is also currently offering two nights’ free hotel accommodation in Abu Dhabi for those booking flights to and from its destinations via the UAE capital. Guests can choose from a range of hotels including the five-star Intercontinental Abu Dhabi and Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi. “This promotion has had an exceptional response and allows us to share the magic with Australian travellers,” said Built.
Sarah Dubke of Orient Tours said, “This is the second time we’ve come out to Australia for the Abu Dhabi Roadshow and we’re always impressed with the standard of event and how interested the travel agents are in learning about our services.”
