The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi Organises ‘Pioneers Among Us’ Event to Celebrate Emirati Novelist Ali Abu Al Rish
To celebrate the publication of Ali Abu Al Rish’s new novel Story of a Lifetime, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) held the ‘Pioneers Among Us’ event today at its Nation Towers offices in the UAE capital. The event was attended by media representatives, writers and DCT Abu Dhabi staff.
DCT Abu Dhabi organised the event to honour and recognise Emirati writers and to encourage Emiratis to tap into their creative sides and increase productivity across various fields of literature. The event included a documentary screening about Al Rish’s journey and his professional and literary career, as well as a session delving deeper into the distinguished Emirati novelist’s experiences in writing, which will be led by Saeed Hamdan Al Tuneiji, Publications Department Director at DCT Abu Dhabi.
The event also saw the publishing of the full collection of Abu Al Rish’s novels, which will be available at this year’s Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, in appreciation of his contributions to Emirati literature.
“This initiative is one of a series of initiatives undertaken by DCT Abu Dhabi in an effort to enhance cultural offerings and provide rich material to the public, in the country and abroad, that enriches culture, as this constitutes a fundamental part of the UAE’s strategy in general and the Department’s strategy in particular,” said Al Rish.
“Any writer will feel happy and grateful for such an initiative that celebrates his career and highlights his work, as these initiatives promote culture and support the authors and creative individuals in carrying out their enlightening role in society, inside and outside the country. Today, I am pleased with the mix of Arab intellectuals who came to attend this initiative that gives authors and creatives hope to continue working on distinguished creative works and novels.”
Abdullah Majed Al Ali, Acting Executive Director of the National Library Sector at DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “The ‘Pioneers Among Us’ series wishes to shed light on Emirati talents, who play an essential part in the promotion of the local literary cultural scene, as well as supporting and appreciating their literary works. We were all delighted to celebrate Ali Abu Al Rish, and his distinguished creative collection, as part of the DCT Abu Dhabi’s strategy to support Emirati writers and celebrate their achievements and creativity.”
Abu Al Rish is a prominent Emirati novelist and journalist who won the Emirates Appreciation of Sciences, Arts and Letters Award, Branch Arts, 2008.
Al Rish has published several titles, including: Al A’tiraf (The Confession) 1982, which was selected as one of the “100 Best Arabic Novels of the Twentieth Century”; The Triangle: Love, Water and Mud; The Sword and the Rose; Adam’s Dilemma; An Extraordinary Woman; Sara’s Shirt; Madness Window; The Idol Hill; Slaayem; Mejbel bin Shahwan; Spirit and Ink, The Statue; The Queen’s Ornaments; Abdul Tawab Al Baghdadi; My Own Dilemma; Emirati Figures and many other novels, literary writings and plays.
