Active Abu Dhabi, an initiative by Emirates Foundation and PureHealth, successfully hosted a 3-kilometer community walk in Mbaazzarah Al Khadra, Al Ain, as part of the ongoing Walk 1000 challenge. The event saw enthusiastic participation from more than 700 individuals of all ages, united in their commitment to promoting health and fitness.

The Walk 1000 challenge, which launched on November 2, 2024, is a 30-day initiative led by ten dedicated athletes championing Active Abu Dhabi’s mission to inspire the community to embrace physical activity as part of their daily routines. The athletes are walking a route that weaves through over 30 historical, cultural, and environmental landmarks across Abu Dhabi, including notable sites like the Baynunah Houbara Reserve and Al Sadeem Observatory. Their journey highlights the emirate’s commitment to preserving its rich heritage while promoting well-being.

This weekend, the community joined the challenge as they walked alongside the ten athletes for a portion of their inspiring journey, further emphasizing the power of collective action in fostering healthier lifestyles.

One participant reflected on the event’s significance, saying: “It was truly inspiring to join the ten athletes leading the main challenge. Seeing their dedication motivated me to push myself further. This initiative sends a powerful message about adopting a healthy lifestyle and it was a reminder that small steps, when taken together, can lead to big changes in our health and in our community.”

One participant shared her thoughts on the importance of such initiatives in promoting a healthy lifestyle: “It was incredible to participate with family and friends in this event. The atmosphere of excitement and collective participation enhanced our sense of connection and encouraged us to adopt healthy habits. Seeing everyone enjoying the walk and sharing stories and experiences reaffirmed the importance of these events in building a healthier and more vibrant community”

The event also saw enthusiastic participation from children of all ages. A 10-year-old participant said: “The walk was so much fun! I loved being outside with my friends and family. The weather was perfect, and it felt great to be part of such a big event. We shared stories as we walked, and I got more excited as we neared the finish. I can’t wait for more events like this and I will encourage my friends to join next time.”

Community members are encouraged to continue their participation in the Walk 1000 challenge through PureHealth’s Pura app, aiming for 6,000 steps daily. This initiative aims to emphasize the transformative benefits of just 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week for overall health and well-being.
