A Picnic in Style: The Grand Picnic Brings Joy, Design, and Community to the Outdoors

Somewhere between the smell of fresh grass, the sound of children laughing, and the clink of glasses under a golden sunset, something special is happening in Ghazir this July.

From July 24 to July 27, the Jardin des Oliviers will transform into a dreamy escape; not just for picnickers, but for designers, families, food lovers, and anyone longing for a new kind of summer experience. The Grand Picnic, an outdoor event curated by The CreativeSquare, is much more than its name suggests. It’s a gathering of creativity, style, and community spirit, set in the heart of nature.

The idea is simple: to take the traditional picnic and give it a twist. Think picnic baskets and blankets on the grass, but also cozy tables for those who prefer more comfort. Picture families playing games, kids exploring special activity zones, a “free sunset picnic”,  young people dancing to good music, and local Lebanese designers showcasing their latest pieces in the open air; all in one joyful, inclusive space.

“The goal is to bring people together; different ages, interests, talents; and offer something refreshing and real,” says Suzy Harikiopoulo, the founder and organizer behind The CreativeSquare. “We’re always searching for new talents and ideas, and we wanted to create a setting that reflects that spirit; something light, fun, and full of life.”

The Grand Picnic is also a celebration of Lebanon’s natural beauty. By choosing a location like Ghazir and designing an experience rooted in the outdoors, the event gently encourages locals and tourists alike to rediscover the country’s mountains and fresh air- through style, play, and connection.

Since its founding in 2016, The CreativeSquare has built a reputation for putting on immersive cultural experiences. Based in Beirut, the production house has long supported emerging Lebanese creatives, offering them platforms that go beyond traditional galleries or stores. The Grand Picnic follows that same path, giving design a new stage under the sky.

But this is just the beginning. The team plans to take The Grand Picnic to other unexpected places across Lebanon, continuing the journey with new landscapes, new designs, and new communities.

For now, though, the place to be is Jardin des Oliviers. Pack a blanket, bring your curiosity, and come ready to enjoy the simple things, in a not-so-simple setting.
