CHARLES LECLERC TOPS THE TIMES AT F1 SECOND PRACTICE IN A DOUBLE RED-FLAGGED SESSION

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc topped Friday’s F1 second Free Practice in a session that saw red flags waved after both Carlos Sainz and Nico Hulkenburg went off-track at Yas Marina Circuit.

On the first day of racing in the 15th milestone Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend, Leclerc set the pace with a time of 1:24.809, with McLaren’s Lando Norris in second while current world champion Max Verstappen was 0.173secs off the pace.

The session was delayed by almost half an hour and shortened to 20 minutes after Sainz went off at turn three, causing repairs to the barriers while Hulkenberg went off at turn one.

The drivers will return to the circuit on Saturday for the third practice session at 2.30pm followed by qualifying at 6.00pm.
