Statement by Ahmad bin Meshar Al Muhairi Secretary-General of Supreme Legislation Committee in Dubai on Emirati Women’s Day

“The Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC) is honoured to celebrate the Emirati Women’s Day, a significant annual event launched by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Supreme Chairperson of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairperson of the Family Development Foundation, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and widely revered as the ‘Mother of the Nation’. Coinciding with the establishment anniversary of the General Women’s Union’s in 1975, Emirati Women’s Day was first observed on August 28, 2015. The theme of this year’s Emirati Women’s Day celebration is ‘We Collaborate for Tomorrow’.

We, at the SLC, are enthusiastic about commemorating this special occasion, following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, who acknowledges women as “essential partners in our national achievements over the past fifty years, and in every ambitious stride we take in the coming decades”. We firmly believe that empowering women and preserving their rights are the cornerstones for progress. We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to drafting legislation that promotes and protects women’s rights, fostering an environment that provides Emirati women with equal opportunities in every field.”
