The Independents acquires Atelier ATHEM

The Independents Group, the leading international communications group specialising in luxury, fashion and lifestyle, adds Paris-based Atelier ATHEM to its portfolio of expert agencies. Renowned for its brand, cultural and artistic scenography, Atelier ATHEM is another string to The Independents’ bow, presenting a new layer to the group’s experiential offering.

Founded in 1985, Atelier ATHEM has established itself as a key player in two main lines of business: financing the restoration of listed buildings through advertising, and creating ephemeral or permanent scenography for brands (scenery, facade lighting, projections, interactive content and sound experiences). By transforming a street, a facade or a space open to the public, Atelier ATHEM aims to create unique events that convey deep meaning and positive emotions.

The studio’s expertise and demanding standards in transforming urban facades into living works of art have redefined the approach to advertising and scenography in public spaces.

With a team of nearly 40 people, Atelier ATHEM works with acclaimed artists, prestigious companies and renowned cultural institutions. ATHEM’s close ties with the artistic world led to emblematic collaborations over the years such as Miguel Chevalier for the MAD fashion gala, Atelier JR for Palais Garnier, Wim Wenders for (E)motion, a monumental visual creation never seen before at the Grand Palais, and Jordane Saget for Samsung at the Palais Garnier.

Over the past 10 years, Atelier ATHEM has carried out over 500 scenographic projects and helped finance the restoration of more than 50 listed monuments and buildings, including Palais Garnier, Louvre Museum, Musée d’Orsay or Hôtel de la Marine.

Aware of the societal issues inherent in its activities, Atelier ATHEM is committed to a voluntary process of continuous improvement, certified to ISO 20121.

The integration into The Independents will enable Atelier ATHEM to benefit from increased resources, an extended international reach to 12 countries on all continents, and a wide network of entrepreneurs with diversified expertise. It will strengthen Atelier ATHEM’s ability to carry out ever more ambitious and innovative projects while remaining true to its commitment to sustainability and respect for cultural heritage.

Atelier ATHEM has incredible potential, and joining The Independents will enable it to fully express it” says Philippe Ligot, president of ATHEM.

“This union represents an invaluable opportunity for growth and innovation for Atelier ATHEM, while preserving its commitment to quality, excellence and sustainable development, and its distinctive DNA.”

“Atelier ATHEM brings a new creative activity to our entrepreneurial community. We deeply believe in the relevance of their unique and innovative business model, supporting cultural institutions and spreading art to the public. It opens a whole new value proposition for our clients, one we intend to develop globally“ explains Isabelle Chouvet, president of The Independents.

Atelier ATHEM will continue to operate under its current brand name, while benefiting from the synergy and support of The Independents and its 14 locations worldwide to open new offices abroad.
